Project

The Project RESTO CON LIFE “Island conservation in Tuscany, restoring habitats not only for birds” is a Life Natura project co-funded by the European Commission. Over the next four years, the coordinating beneficiary Tuscan Archipelago National Park – together with the associated beneficiaries, the Institute for the Protection and Environmental Research, the Department of Biology of the University of Florence, and the Territorial Office for Biodiversity of the Carabinieri Corps will work on improving the conservation status of habitats and rare species of animals and plants on the islands of Pianosa, Elba, Montecristo, and Giannutri.

This broad-spectrum intervention project is endowed with a total investment of EUR 3,123.67 million; it is aimed at the re-naturalization of complex systems altered in part by human intervention, so as to protect sea birds and avifauna nesting in the Mediterranean shrubland, endemic reptiles, holm oak and juniper woods, coastal dunes and the vegetation of rocky coasts, vernal pools, and meadows with annual herbaceous plants typical of warm-arid environments.
